The Aletsch Glacier lies in the area of the Aletsch Arena and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Jungfrau-Aletsch. The cable car first goes up to the Riederalp and then continues with the Gletscherbahn to the Moosfluh, one of the region's four viewpoints. At this spot the glacier has an ice thickness of around 200 metres and is characterised by two moraines fed by three large firn fields. Crampons and a climbing harness are needed to walk on the glacier, and the descent down an ice wall is secured with ice screws and a rope team.
