Appenzeller Schaukäserei

The Appenzeller Schaukäserei in Stein shows visitors the cheese-making process, whose exact secret recipe is known to only two people worldwide. At the start of the tour, visitors receive a snack as well as a key with which the "Ruden" can be opened, the ripening cellars where the cheese wheels mature stacked metres high. There is information about Appenzell dialects as well as about the well-known Silvesterklausen. Visitors can also put together their own herb blend from various herbs. Outside there are a garden restaurant and a playground with a climbing wall and slide, and the show dairy is open 364 days a year.
