The open observation and photo cars of the Rhaetian Railway are among the most popular experiences for railway and nature enthusiasts. The yellow, open cars run in summer on selected RhB lines and allow a journey in the open air – entirely without window panes. This creates ideal conditions for photographs of viaducts, glaciers, mountain lakes and the spectacular spiral tunnels of the Graubünden Alps.
Particularly well known are the journeys on the Bernina line between St. Moritz and Tirano as well as on the stretch between Davos and Filisur. During the ride, passengers feel the wind directly in their faces and experience the UNESCO World Heritage route from a completely different perspective. The open cars are therefore often referred to as photo cars and are popular with railway lovers from all over Europe.
The observation cars run only during the summer season and may be deployed depending on weather conditions. A regular train ticket is sufficient to ride along; a special surcharge is normally not required.
