Bartabhauätä Engelberg
The Bartabhauätä is a tradition-rich event in Engelberg, at which men have the beards they have grown over months cut off in public. The custom originally comes from the alpine herdsmen, who did not shave during the summer on the alp. Today the spectacle, with music, festival catering and sociable get-togethers, makes for an entertaining evening and is one of the region's special cultural traditions.
