The Naters ossuary preserves the skulls and bones of people who died long ago and were once exhumed from their graves. Exactly 1857 skulls are neatly lined up on the wall of skulls, some of them labelled with names. According to the latest calculations, it is assumed that up to 31,000 skulls may be hidden in the ossuary. To prevent the skulls from being stolen, iron bars were installed on the north side. The ossuary is located in the canton of Valais and can be viewed from the outside at any time and free of charge.
