The village of Brienz in the canton of Graubünden lies on a so-called sliding slope that has not settled down to this day. As a result, the village moves about one metre down the slope each year, which is why roads have to be repaired regularly and cracks appear in house façades. The village church tower also leans visibly. In addition, the region is threatened by a rockfall that would be 14 times larger than the one at Bondo. As a possible solution, a drainage tunnel several kilometres long is being dug to divert the water in the ground that drives the slope movement.
