The Brienzer Rothorn Railway has been running on steam since 1892 and climbs 1600 metres in altitude over a route of 7.6 kilometres. The gradient reaches up to 25 per cent and the journey to the Brienzer Rothorn takes around 60 minutes. Along the way the train passes through 9 tunnels and one gallery and runs close to rock faces. The construction of the entire line took only 16 months.
