At this location in Zurich stands the former house of the Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger. Schrödinger was one of the first physicists to explain modern quantum mechanics by means of a thought experiment. His most famous thought experiment, known as Schrödinger's cat, describes a closed box containing a living cat, a vial of poison and a radioactive element. As long as the box remains unopened, the cat is theoretically in a quantum superposition between alive and dead.
