The frog tunnel on the Zugerberg
The so-called frog tunnel on the Zugerberg serves to protect amphibians such as frogs, toads and newts during their annual migration to their spawning grounds. Special tunnels were built beneath the Geissbodenstrasse so that the animals can safely pass under the road. Previously, numerous volunteers had to carry amphibians across the road every year. Today, fences guide the animals directly to the underpasses. The frog tunnel is regarded as an important nature conservation project on the Zugerberg and shows how modern infrastructure and animal protection can be combined.
