The wooden bridge connects Rapperswil in the canton of St. Gallen with Hurden in the canton of Schwyz, crossing a cantonal border in the process. It rests on 233 piles; bridges were already built at this narrow point of the lake 5000 years ago. Along the way you pass a chapel as well as romantic benches with views of the Obersee and Lake Zurich. Construction cost 3 million francs; a renovation costing around 5 million francs is currently being considered due to fungal infestation.
