The journey is made with the Eiger Express from Grindelwald Terminal to Eigergletscher and onwards with the Jungfraubahn up to the Jungfraujoch. Construction of the railway began in 1896 with work in three shifts, during which many workers lost their lives. Along the way lie the Eismeer station at 3160 metres as well as Europe's highest karst cave. The attractions include the Alpine Sensation, the Ice Palace with its branching passages and the Sphinx Observatory at 3571 metres with far-reaching views.
