Europe's Shortest Railway

Smallest regional railway with a great history

The Oensingen–Balsthal-Bahn (OeBB) is a short but important regional railway in the canton of Solothurn. The line connects Oensingen station with Balsthal and is around 4 kilometres long – making it one of the shortest standard-gauge railway lines in Switzerland.

The line runs through the Klus, a narrow and scenically impressive gorge at the southern foot of the Jura. Today, regional trains run here regularly every half hour, supplemented by buses in the evening.

Despite its short length, the OeBB is of great importance for the region: it connects the Thal Nature Park with the national rail network and also offers nostalgic rides and special trains for railway enthusiasts.
