METAS - Federal Institute of Metrology

METAS is the institution responsible in Switzerland for precise measurements for people and the environment. It houses an anechoic chamber in which sound can barely spread, in contrast to a strongly reverberating corridor. A sound level meter makes the difference in sound propagation visible. On the site there is also a spherical structure with a strong echo effect. Staying in the silent room is considered demanding, as 45 minutes is regarded as the critical limit of endurance.
