Schaffhausen
The Munot is the landmark of Schaffhausen and is inhabited and looked after by a Munot keeper. A moat runs around the fortress, home to fallow deer whose dominant stag traditionally bears the name of the current mayor of Schaffhausen. Behind the main entrance opens a large vaulted hall that once served as a bunker, and an underground passage leads to the soldiers' former firing positions. The so-called Reitschnecke, a spiral ramp, leads up to the residential tower, where the Munot bell is still rung every evening at 9 p.m. The tour also passes the armoury and the home of the Munot keeper.
