Between 5,000 and 10,000 years ago, glaciers covered this area; as they retreated, they left behind moraine material. The Pyramids of Euseigne are made of this material. Over time, wind and weather eroded the surrounding rock, while heavier blocks of rock on the tips acted as protection and remained in place. Since erosion continuously removes the material around these capstones, the blocks will eventually lose their support. Some pyramids in the surrounding area have already lost their protective capstone.
