Quinten lies directly on the sunny slope of Lake Walen and is one of the warmest places in Switzerland. The village can be reached either by boat in a few minutes or on foot along a stony rock path from Weesen or Walenstadt. Because of the Mediterranean climate, figs and kiwis grow in Quinten alongside grapes. There is neither a police station nor a school in the village, and no cars either, which is why all shopping and goods have to be delivered by boat and transported on foot. Snakes such as grass snakes and Aesculapian snakes also live in the village.
