Rheinfelden consists of two towns with the same name, one in Switzerland and one in Germany, separated only by the Rhine. Three bridges connect the two parts, including a pedestrian bridge that can be crossed day and night without passport control. A bus even runs across the border between the two districts, but it is operated by a German company. Swiss citizens who live in the German part of Rheinfelden are officially considered Swiss abroad.
