The sandstone educational trail begins in Krauchthal, where numerous buildings were constructed from the local sandstone. The circular route runs 2.5 km around the ridge and takes about one and a half hours. Along the way, visitors discover four disused quarries as well as historic tools once used to break out large blocks of sandstone. At the Museum Krauchthal, visitors can borrow such tools to carve a pattern into sandstone themselves. Many well-known buildings in the canton and in the city of Bern were built from this sandstone.
