Near the municipality of Chiasso in the canton of Ticino, Pedrinate marks the southernmost point of Switzerland. From Chiasso, the Pedrinate Chiesa stop is reached by bus line 511, from where a hiking trail continues southwards. Along the path stand large iron bars protruding from the ground, erected by Italy to curb smuggling. At the actual southernmost point, border stone 75b marks the national border, and a depiction of Helvetia also stands there.
